One step in joining the fight for higher education is to become a member of the AAUP, affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers/AFL-CIO. Membership is confidential and members benefit from legal support, tutorials, information sharing, and community engagement linking local to national levels; AAUP also sends a weekly roundup of news articles that chronicle crises across the country. We are also the sole university governance force that includes faculty, staff, and graduate students. Modest dues rates are scaled by income, between 6.50 and 28.75 USD a month.

Texas AAUP-AFT Office of Faculty Representation (OFR) helps members facing investigations, disciplinary action, or dismissal. Since launching Oct. 2023, OFR has helped 80+ faculty/staff resolve issues with their administration. More info.

As a member of the AAUP you are also a member of the American Federation of Teachers, whose mission reads: “The AFT is a union of professionals that champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities. We are committed to advancing these principles through community engagement, organizing, collective bargaining and political activism, and especially through the work our members do.”
